Jimmy Emudluk and I have had many opportunities to build our rapport through both school and outside school as part of the Arctic Winter Games event. In school, Jimmy always kept me on my toes. He is articulate and always looking for ways to distract the teacher and derail the lesson. He's very skilled at asking questions, and knows that I love answering questions. Jimmy brings a lot of humour and charisma to any group he's in. I enjoy his quick wit a lot. He tricked me for the first little while he was in class, then I learned to only engaged his questions briefly so I could press forward with the assignments, much to his chagrin. I believe that Jimmy will be great in whatever he chooses to pursue in the future, as long as he persists with the hard work that's needed and am anxious to see what he decides in the next few years!
As part of the AWG, he was on the snowshoe team for the 2014 games in Fairbanks, Alaska. We had a great trip and I liked having him on the team. He was a good leader to the younger runners, helping teach them what sportsmanship means. He returned in 2016 to the games in Greenland but as a Dene athlete this time. Wonder what he'll try out for next time?
This is Jimmy's final year of school and if all goes well he'll be on the stage accepting his Secondary 5 certificate in June! Good luck Jim!! I believe in you!!
